Phoenix Birthday Phest!

Nathan's 30th birthday came and went without much of anything.  I honestly don't even remember what we did.  Sad.  I decided to rectify my mistake and make his 31st lots of fun!  We found a Travelzoo deal for a resort just outside of Phoenix, so we decided to make this a destination birthday.  And really, Las Vegas just wasn't hot enough...

Doesn't he look great at 2am?  We arrived late, but we decided we should celebrate his birthday while it was still kind of actually the right day.

So he can fight foo.

A movie we were too sleepy to watch, but all were excited by this gift!

Nathan as a bb.  My main gift was a video/music collage of Nathan from bb size up to now.  Thank you to Michelle for letting me steal your idea and thank you to the Higley family who let me dig through and temporarily steal a lot of cute pictures.  The project was time consuming, but so fun.  I even packed our DVD player for our trip to make sure we could watch it.  :)

Birthday documentation around 2:30am.  I'm glad we had nowhere to really go the next day...

...except here!  I'd been to this museum before for a few exhibits and have always had fun.  This time was no exception.

I enjoyed their new dyno in the front yard.

Museum lobby.

Me nerding it up by a cat.

Nate nerding it up while shearing some sheep.  This painting was ginormous.

We loved this one; it's a photograph of an abandoned rail car.

While in the museum...

Nate with some firewood.  Really.  Honestly, this piece was really cool looking; it was created by a Turner Prize (yearly exhibition I saw in London) winner from 1997.  I say he deserved the win.

Hopefully you can see the electric sign of the walking people...that is actually the work that this viewing space is used for.

Blending in?  (Ruth, Alisha and I may have tried something similar before...)

K, what?

The last piece didn't allow photography, so I was "taking a picture of Nate".

Next stop; Cerreta's!  This candy factory is a Harrison favorite and I was thrilled Nate was up for it.  They don't offer live tours on Saturdays, but we made the most of it:

see?

see?  Yes, there candy is just as good (if not better) than I remembered!

Nate and the Mesa Temple.

I'm glad we had a chance to stop by the temple; it was incredibly hot, but the grounds are so pretty and unique.  It was a great way to end the day on the town.

This was a great way to end the night!  I'm thankful their jacuzzi wasn't as hot as the average, because it felt nice to rest our feet in here.

Speaking of resting feet, this haas looks a little tired.  (This creepy thing was on display in the lobby of the hotel)

As always, Kathryn was concerned about our absence and happy to see our return.

Like many of our trips this was short, but sweet.  Happy birthday Nathan!  I'm glad you are finally as old as I am.  :)

Some firsts

I've had a productive week!

This is Nate holding the bird (not ours) that has previously hated me.

This is me actually holding him!  We had to be tricksy, but he stayed on once it was just me.  :)

We made banana bread!  I say we because Nate was so nice and mixed it all up while I was getting my hair done and I baked it. ("baking" also includes cleaning the beaters and spatula...it was SO tasty) For the record, the actual bread is tasty also!

I made a dress!  It wasn't anything too complicated, but it is comfy and wearable (unlike the first dress I ever attempted to make).  This is the top half...it's a t-shirt connected to a skirt...sort of based on this pattern.

This is the best I could do...the kitties weren't helping with the photography...but you get the general idea.  This may be the first time I sewed something (I actually will wear) on my own!

Huzzah for new things!

Out of order-Lizzie's baptism extravaganza!

This past March, Lizzie was baptized!  I added this post to the family blog, but failed to add to my own, so here it is:

I was only able to grab this picture by saying "it's for the kitties!"

Alisha voluntarily made this face, fyi.

Cute Nathan.

Notice Lilly...she has a theme going...

Yay, I love this one!

This too!

I did ask Nate to bomb this one, but he was eager to comply.

See?

Cute, cute.

Twinners.

Lizzie working on her pillowcase.

Grey working on his cupcake.

More Twinners.

Cutest picture ever.

He was kinda a fixture.

Lucky post-red velvet cupcake eating.

Lizzie posing with her baptism haul.

Jim just relaxing.

Lizzie feeding him with a bottle...it gets better...

Introducing: "Nadene"!

Liz x 2 (or Nadene and Liz Sr.)

Bidding Afton farewell.

Under the stairs...

The mice comment cracked me up...it seemed to get more insistent.

Ruth's Artwork!

It was so fun to see everyone; can't wait for the next time we can alllll be together!
